Lemington Riverside Primary School

School Meal Price Update: 4 February 2026

You may remember that a few months ago we shared with you that Newcastle City Council had increased school meal prices by an amount that we felt was quite a lot in one jump for families.
As a school, we have subsidised the price of our school meals for our families to keep them at the previous price since last summer. We know that everybody is under financial pressures at the moment and your child having a hot school meal should not be an extra financial pressure.
Yesterday, we were informed that there will be a further 10p rise per day for the cost of a child's meal from April 2026.
We can confirm that Lemington Riverside will continue to subsidise the cost of school meals for our children until at least the end of the summer term 2026.
This means that our school meal charges for families who pay for school meals will be:
£2.50 per child, per day (This means school will subsidise the price of each meal by 60p per day).
We continue to lobby politicians on behalf of our families on the price of school meals - ultimately we are of the view that there should be a universal free school meal offer for all children who attend primary schools.
We'll keep you posted...
