Mandarin Club

This year, pupils in Years 3 and 4 have enjoyed taking part in our Mandarin Club, delivered by tutors from the Newcastle University Confucius Institute.

The club has provided pupils with an exciting opportunity to learn about Chinese language and culture in a fun and interactive way. Throughout the sessions, pupils have developed their confidence in speaking Mandarin by learning greetings, numbers and simple conversational phrases. They have also explored topics such as the weather and practised using new vocabulary in short spoken exchanges.

As well as language learning, pupils have developed their understanding of Chinese culture. A particular highlight was learning about Chinese New Year, including its traditions, celebrations and significance. Through a range of engaging activities, pupils gained an insight into life and culture in China while developing an appreciation of the similarities and differences between cultures around the world.

The Mandarin Club supports our school ethos of “We Are Global” by encouraging curiosity, cultural understanding and respect for others. It helps our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
