Lemington Riverside Primary School

August 2026 Newsletter

As we approach the middle of the summer holidays, we hope you are all enjoying time together as a family. The new term will be here in a few weeks, so we are providing a few reminders/updates below for the start of the new school year.

DOWNLOAD OUR SCHOOL APP:

If you haven't already, please download our school app as this is the main way that we communicate messages with parents/carers from school. The app is called 'Greenhouse Schools' and can be downloaded from the Apple and Android stores on to your mobile device.

When you download the app for the first time, search for Lemington Riverside Primary School and you will need to enter a one-time code for our school which is 1909

In the app settings you can choose which notifications you wish to receive. We recommended you always enable 'Whole School News' notifications as well as notifications for your child's class. Remember, if your child has moved up a school year you will now need to change the notifications for the new class.

RETURN TO SCHOOL:

School re-opens for children on Wednesday 2nd September. Doors are open from 8:45am and children must be in class for 9:00am each day. For children in Nursery and Reception, you will have received separate communication about the start date for your child.

At the start of every day children in the Bridge, Nursery and Reception have their own dedicated entrance.

Children in Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 can enter the main building through either the Sugley Street or Rokeby Street doors. Staff supervise all entrances in a morning between 8:45-9am. Adults who are not members of staff are not allowed beyond the doors, unless invited to, this ensures that we maintain a secure space within school.

OUR NEW BREAKFAST CLUB:

Our new government-funded free breakfast club opens from the first day back in September, children must arrive for breakfast club between 8:15-8:20am at the double blue doors on the Rokeby Street side of school. The breakfast club is open to all children in Reception, Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Bookings must be made online using the link below.

Please note, you must book your child into breakfast club at least 2 weeks in advance so that we can plan out staffing and food orders.

Bookings for week 1 of breakfast club will close at 12 noon on Wednesday 19th August.
Bookings for week 2 of breakfast club will close at 12 noon on Monday 24th August.
If your child also attends our paid-for wraparound provision from 7:45am in a morning, you should still book them into this and pay for in it in the same way by contacting the main school office on 0191 267 4315 or emailing admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk
CHANGE TO HOME TIME ARRANGEMENTS:

A reminder that we have changed the pick-up times/arrangements at the end of the school day.

This follows our own observations of the end of the day and also acts on feedback from our recent parent/carer survey. These arrangements will be trialled for the first half term up until the October half term holiday – we will review how they work in school during that time and also ask for your feedback too before making any permanent changes.

The new trial arrangements between 2 September – 23 October 2026 will be as follows:

  • Nursery – Dismissed at 3:15pm from the Nursery entrance.
  • The Bridge – Dismissed at 3:30pm from the Nursery entrance.
  • Reception – Dismissed at 3:30pm from the Reception entrance.
  • Year 1 – Dismissed at 3:20pm from the SUGLEY DOORS.
  • Year 2 – Dismissed at 3:20pm from ROKEBY DOORS 1.
  • Year 3 – Dismissed at 3:20pm from ROKEBY DOORS 2.
  • Year 4 – Dismissed at 3:30pm from ROKEBY DOORS 1.
  • Year 5 – Dismissed at 3:30pm from SUGLEY DOORS.
  • Year 6 – Dismissed at 3:30pm from SUGLEY DOORS.
If you are picking up from the Rokeby Street side of school, you will notice we have had a brand new ramp installed to improve accessibility to our main building. If your child is dismissed from 'Rokeby Doors 1' they will come down the steps, if they are dismissed from 'Rokeby Doors 2' they will come down the ramp.
Please see the map below for exact locations of dismissal points. We believe this approach will mean a calmer and safer way to dismiss the children at home time, easing congestion at the doors. Children will be handed directly from the door by staff members to waiting parents/carers. Children who walk home alone (Years 4 upwards only) will be dismissed by the teacher first, before all other children are handed to their adults one by one. We ask parents/carers to be patient as we implement this system – it may be a bit slower, but the priority is safe dismissal of our children. Thanks!

UNIFORM:

At Lemington Riverside we have been proud for a number of years now to provide all children with a uniform-bundle each summer ahead of the new school year. Additional uniform items can be purchased from Elite Embroidery at Bells Close (if you would like items with the school logo on). You can also purchase plain blue jumpers and all other uniform items from the larger supermarkets such as Asda and Tesco or Primark.
We have a large amount of pre-loved uniform in a range of sizes at school, if you'd like to request any uniform you can drop Kim a message on 07494726407.

2026/2027 School Year Term Dates:
Welcome to our new facilities manager (Caretaker)

We are delighted to welcome our new facilities manager (caretaker), Eric, who will join us at Lemington Riverside from 1 September. Eric comes with a great skills-set for the job and will be a great addition to our team.

You may notice that the former caretaker's house on-site is now being converted into additional office and meeting room space for the school.
Congratulations to Miss Brush!

Finally, congratulations to Miss Brush who got married this summer! From September Miss Brush will be known as Mrs. Murray in school.
