The Hygge Approach
At Lemington Riverside Primary School, we are excited to introduce the Hygge approach to our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Inspired by the Danish concept of Hygge, our aim is to create a warm, cosy, and nurturing environment that supports the emotional and academic growth of our young learners.
Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is all about creating a sense of comfort, togetherness, and well-being. In our EYFS classroom, this translates into a learning space where children feel secure, happy, and engaged. By fostering a calm and inviting atmosphere, we help children develop a love for learning and a strong sense of community.
- Soft Lighting and Natural Materials: We use gentle lighting and natural materials to create a peaceful and welcoming environment.
- Cosy Areas: Dedicated spaces for reading and quiet play help children feel comfortable and secure.
- Outdoor Play and Nature Connection: Emphasising outdoor activities to promote physical well-being and a connection with the natural world.
- Mindfulness and Community Activities: Incorporating group storytelling, collaborative projects, and mindfulness activities to foster a sense of belonging and emotional well-being.
We believe that the Hygge approach will enrich our children's learning experiences, making our classroom a place where they can thrive.
