Lemington Riverside Primary School

Early Years

Early Years at Lemington Riverside is the place where the learning adventure begins for our youngest children!

We are proud of our recently refurbished Early Years building and outdoor learning garden. Our curriculum is designed to be fun and tailored around your child's interests, whilst at the same time developing the early skills that are vital for their success in their educational journey. We are currently working towards a Hygge approach within our Early Years setting to create a calm and warming environment for all children

Our Early Years Leader and Nursery Teacher is Miss Victoria Jeffcock and our Reception teacher is Miss Robyn Elsender. We always welcome visits to our Early Years Unit- if you would like to arrange a visit, please use the contact details available on our website.

We use the Birth to 5 Matters document as a guidance to prepare our children for a Good Level of Development at the end of Reception, so they have an excellent start to Year 1.

We teach our children to read and write using Read, Write, Inc, starting with Nursery Rhymes in Nursery, progressing to blending and segmenting sounds to recognising sounds by the end of Nursery. Children then develop onto reading and writing sentences by the end of Reception.

We always provide a strong start to our children’s Maths skills. We use White Rose Maths and Maths Mastery which is outstanding in developing the key Early Maths skills needed in order to be successful in future year groups.

Our topics are driven by a book of the week, linking exciting experiences, activities, trips and visitors to theses, developing a love of learning for all children. These topics may change depending on the interests of our children.

We recognise the importance of play and outdoors, offering a newly developed (and still developing) outdoor area and Forest School sessions daily. During our outdoor time, children develop their social, communication, imagination and gross motor skills which are pivotal to help our children be successful writers in the future.

We are a strong, passionate team, who are always forward-thinking to offer the best start for every child in our school.
